Now that I’m bringing up my older notes, I need to process them to move them off that list. I will share my goals and patterns for processing notes here.
Processing goals
This site is an interactive knowledge engine. I use it to process data in different ways.
Most of the public notes here are meant to be archived in a distinct collection of online documents. That might mean blogs, wikis, forums, sites I don’t operate, etc.
So each time I review a note I have in mind one or more possible documents to which it will contribute. It is not always clear, but developing notes further helps clarify what that knowledge is building toward.
What to do with journal entries?
An example: Weekly updates, 2023
It is notable that I am not good at keeping weekly logs in public. I log nearly every day, but not in the same location, and rarely publicly.
I’m slowly changing this by writing about events in a particular way, one that is difficult for me to describe at the moment, except that is not like the “casual blogging” style I often lean on.
Anyhow, I have a lot of journal topics like this, all over the place. What am I gonna do with them?
Probably break them into discreet entries and gather in a personal journal website.
commercial notes
All these notes have affiliate links and deals.
I do not have the personality of an “affiliate”; I just do not have relationships with companies in this way.
However, I do like creating useful collections of links. So I began collecting the affiliate links for companies that I talk about in other contexts. That means I generally use these companies as vendors and am willing to share knowledge about them.
Affiliate marketing is a numbers game, and I’m not going to gather more vendors. So it means this is not as lucrative as it is a log of observations about how vendors I use and trust are doing affiliate marketing.
For these I do two things when I review them:
- Ensure my personal information is up to date with this vendor – check 1password record, check the vendor dashboard, make sure payments and contact info is correct
- Update on what the vendor is and what it offers – this is my personal assessment of why I’m using this vendor, which allows guidance and/or critique, ensuring that as consumers we have the best information about vendors
I’m also interested in tracking how these links work, and will use each note as a log of awards. When I get paid or whatever, I’ll make note of it. If my freethinking approach does become lucrative, it will be apparent from updates on commercial notes! ![]()
