Descended from Emperor Kōgen, Takenouchi no Sukune served under five legendary emperors, Emperor Keikō, Emperor Seimu, Emperor Chūai, Emperor Ōjin, and Emperor Nintoku, but was perhaps best known for his service as Grand Minister (Ōomi) to the Regent Empress Jingū, with whom he supposedly invaded Korea. While Jingu was regent to her son, Ojin, Takenouchi was accused of treason. He underwent the “ordeal of boiling water” as a way to prove his innocence.
In the Ogam Tract Ogma is said to be a man skilled in speech and poetry who invented the Ogham as proof of his ingenuity and to create a speech that belongs to learned men apart from rustics. In the same tract Ogma is called the father of the Ogham alphabet, and his knife or hand its mother.[11][2] The same tract says that sound was the father of Ogham and matter its mother.

There were probably several types of south-pointing chariots that worked differently. In most or all of them, the rotating road wheels mechanically operated a geared mechanism to keep the pointer aimed correctly. The pointer was aimed southward by hand at the start of a journey. Subsequently, whenever the chariot turned, the mechanism rotated the pointer relative to the body of the chariot to counteract the turn. This kept the pointer aiming in a constant direction, equal to the starting position. Thus the mechanism did a kind of directional dead reckoning, which is inherently prone to cumulative errors and uncertainties. Some chariots’ mechanisms may have had differential gears.
I love this thing! It’s such a weird device, which would have been incrediably helpful in the ancient world, as well as seem magical… not unlike our ability to pull out magic mirror devices that recieve knowledge from other devices above the sky.
